I have installed the extension pack using the gentoo portage system. The
issue here is that USB 2.0 is not enabled therefore many USB devices in
the VM guest do not work. In, Windows 7, the device drivers install but
the device will not start. Some background on the issue is here:

If anyone is successfully using USB 2.0 devices in a Win7 guest, I would
be interested to hear about.
