Hey Y'all,
I have VirtualBox-4.1-4.1.22_80657_el6-1.i686 installed on my system.
When I start it up it tells me that a new release is available.
I downloaded the package and then tried to upgrade my Vbox installation:
[root@mushroom RPM_REPO]# rpm -qa | grep VirtualBox
VirtualBox-4.1-4.1.22_80657_el6-1.i686
[root@mushroom RPM_REPO]# yum upgrade
VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.4_81684_el6-1.i686.rpm
Examining VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.4_81684_el6-1.i686.rpm:
VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.4_81684_el6-1.i686
Package VirtualBox-4.2 not installed, cannot update it. Run yum install
to install it instead.
No Packages marked for Update
[root@mushroom RPM_REPO]#
Having failed that I tried to intall it
[root@mushroom RPM_REPO]# yum install
VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.4_81684_el6-1.i686.rpm
Running Transaction Test
Transaction Check Error:
Lots of conflicts with file from package VirtualBox-4.1
Error Summary
-------------
[root@mushroom RPM_REPO]#
It would appear that I will have to erase Vbox 4.1 in order to install
Vbox 4.2.
If I erase Vbox 4.1 what happens to all my existing configuration? Will
I need to reconfigure my installation? I'm sure you can understand my
reticence.
