I have a machine running 64-bit Win7, with VBox 4.26 installed, along with
its corresponding guest additions. One VM runs 64-bit Windows Server 2008
Standard. I watch its resource usage with Windows Resource Monitor, and I
see that it is not uncommon for the virtual machine to be operating above
90% of capacity, if not even 95%, for CPU Usage, even at times when nothing
more is happening than downloading and installing updates. I have not
measured the amount of time this occurs, but it does so regularly enough to
cause me no small amount of apprehension. I would like to see if there is
something I can do to avoid this.

Before I go talk to Microsoft Support about some issues related to it, as I
should do at this point, I want to see if this is characteristic of the W2K8
Server VM running in Virtual Box, and whether there is anything I can
analyze to see what I could be doing differently to help the situation. I
don't want to spend an inordinate amount of time hand-holding this one
machine in VBox if I can avoid it, and I am just about to the point of
seeing whether I can get better performance from VMWare for this one VM as I
do not have any such issues with other VMs in Windows or Linux. If anyone
with experience in this scenario has any pointers for troubleshooting or
recommendations, it would be welcome news to me. Thanks.
