For clarification: VBox-Users is indeed a mailman mailing list, hosted by
sourceforge. (I never knew till now.) It is indeed sourceforge that appends
the ad attachment.
They *don't* attach it to "each and every" post. In fact, it seems, they
attach it approx 50% of the time, I estimate by skimming over my mail folder.
The attachments come through as plain-text, ATT00001.txt attachment to email
message. The one John complained about says:

I only pasted it here because Pablo seemed to be confused about what John's
complaining about.
I'll agree, it's annoying. But we are using this mailing list for free, and
it's so easy to ignore, I literally never even noticed or looked at it, until
John mentioned it in this thread. So ... I guess... Sourceforge is like any
other ad-supported software. But as long as the attachments remain plaintext,
unlike other ad-supported software, I have no concerns about getting any
viruses or junk through the ad.
