I happened to have been able to fix the refusal to install in the host by
deleting C:\Program
Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\ExtensionPacks\{someversion}Uninst.
But when I open a virtual machine, it still reports the old version, and
there isn't an install option off the menu (Windows XP is the machine in
this case).
So I'm just confused how it even works, because it's just a bunch of .dll's
and various "doc"-type files... no installer, per se.There was some version back that I changed the machine gui guest additions to be an iso file. So you may be right - the only "sure" way may be to uninstall and re-install. -----Original Message----- From: vbox-users [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2013 6:55 PM To: Community mailing list of VirtualBox users Subject: Re: [VBox-users] Extension Packs > From: Bob Wyatt [mailto:[email protected]] I don't know anything about the error messages that you posted, but generally speaking you can fix every problem of this type by (a) uninstalling virutalbox, (b) re-downloading fresh copies of the virtualbox and extension pack installers (ensure they're both the same version). and (c) you guess what comes next. ;-) Also, when you install the extension pack, there's more than one way to do it. I always go to the menu in the GUI, and from there, select to install the extension pack. Shouldn't matter, but superstition. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Precog is a next-generation analytics platform capable of advanced analytics on semi-structured data.
