It's about your laptop card reader not being standard or at all an USB device, or there are no drivers fo XP inside VM to work with it or try to change USB setting in Virtualbox. Anyway, safe option would be to use another USB card reader on laptop, that also works on XP in VM and of course, make "shared folder" in Virtualbox between host OS and VM and copy data to that dir and back to card using host OS. Or yes, use flash drive. (Or some internet place, one that allows privacy unlike others, like Mega.co.nz)
