Hi; I understand that if somebody is doing snapshots with VirtualBox that changing the guest OS name could be difficult and error-prone.
However, if one is not doing snapshots with VirtualBox and wants to change the name of the guest OS, if the guest were fully shut down, that the renaming done in the General tab of the VirtualBox application would also change the name of the *.vdi file and the contents of the *.vdi file pertinent to the old host name. If this cannot be done then... It would be nice if a warning were provided when changing the guest OS name that the rename will not be complete if the rename process is not completed by the change of the vm name in the General tab. If this cannot be done then... It would be nice if this would be placed in the documentation, that the rename process is not complete and here are the steps to finish the process manually or here are the possible results if you don't finish the renaming process manually. I'm going to try to do all of this via VBoxManage CLI so that my users don't have so much work to do when they want to change the name of the guest appliance that I provide for them. I really do like VirtualBox very much, in spite of some little things that bug me like this.
