Sounds like the keyboard layout configured in the guest does not match
your host or your physical.
Try be setting your host and your guest to match the physical layout and
see if the keys are correct.

problem may appear on Oracle Solaris desktop, because I found similar
issues stated for OpenSolaris at the times...

Hi,
I can run VirtualBox 5.x on our XStreamOS/illumos Desktop.
Running a VM through the GUI, opens up the console, but the
keyboard is always wrong... ( / is on key SHFT+6, e.g)
A lot of keys are missing or in a totally wrong place, never seen
on any keyboard.
The hosting system is installed on bare metal with english
language, but Italian keyboard.
Didn't have any chance to try an install on bare metal with
default english keyboard, maybe VB may react differently?
Any idea?
