Hi; This may not be news to people here but since I found out a while ago, I thought that sharing it would be nice to some people.
I have a few unix / windows vms running on a server. A while ago, one of the unix guests had a problem with the ssh daemon and I was unable to access it. So I sshed to the host, called up VirtualBox, right clicked on the running unix vm and chose "Show". The host's xauth wouldn't allow a 2nd window besides the already displayed VirtualBox. I found that the VirtualBox executable provides the means to call up the console directly by typing: VirtualBox --comment name-of-the-vm --startvm name-of-the-vm \ --no-startvm-errormsgbox --separate This brings up the console of the vm (whatever OS it may be), as if you walked up to its "physical machine" and turned on the monitor. When called up this way, after you're finished up with the repair and click on the "close" button, VirtualBox offers an option to let the VM keep running on the background. This is REALLY cool and saved me many times! I hope it can be of help. []s, -- Mario Lobo http://www.mallavoodoo.com.br FreeBSD since 2.2.8 [not Pro-Audio....
