I was trying to install the extension pack to VBox 5.2.8 in Win10 1703
It failed repeatedly with.

After a lot of googling and banging my head to the walls, I found that
the procedure described here
http://www.mariopinho.com/en/solution-virtualbox-extension-pack-installer-failed-verr_access_denied/

...works wonderfully.

It is a manual process, you must have WinRAR or similar decompressor,
and it's a bit of a pain. But in any case it works.

Steps:
1. Right click on .extpack file choose to open with 7zip or similar
multi-format decompressor (I used WinRAR in my case-), you will get a
single file as output, rename that single file to .rar then decompress
again, then copy the subfolder contents to a folder named
"C:\Program
Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\ExtensionPacks\Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack"
...worked fine.

Then restart Virtualbox and go to File->Preferences->extensions and
you will see the extpack was correctly "installed" and enabled.

This on a system with Kaspersky Total Security 18.0.0.405, which I
choose not to disable (there's a chance disabling the AV might have
allowed the install to proceed without errors, but it's only a guess).

I'm forwarding this to the list and devs in the hope that this helps
fix this problem, which seems more like a permissions issue.
