Hi,

Depending on disk sizes, the dd command will take a REALLY LONG TIME to 
complete unless you specify a large "bs" parameter. The default is 512 bytes (a 
sector) so multiples of this would be good. I've used bs=1024000 and had fairly 
good results. The dd command will copy unallocated/empty sectors too. It might 
be quicker to make a new fs on each(?) new partition and use tar pipes to copy 
the data. The problem of booting and grub would remain though.
