Glen,

Thanks!

*I suppose the reason VBox has more trouble with memory allocation on my Penryn based 4 GB MacBook Pro vs. your Merom based 3 GB Mac, could have nothing to do with the different in "memory architecture" ... but then again it could be significant.
*
*I'm on Leopard, so yeah, that *could* be a factor. :-D*

FYI, our Mac's differ specifically in the amount of addressible manage memory, which partly due to different processors, and partly due to different supporting chipsets.

Yours is a flavor of Merom, mine is Penryn.

See this note about the 3 GB "funny business" in your system.

I'm finding that more often than not, VBox on Mac will fail to start a
VM and throw "VBox status code: -8 (VERR_NO_MEMORY)" or sometimes "VBox
 status code: -32 (VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR)."

Hi Leon,

Probably not much help, but I've got a very similar config to you (Mac
OS 10.4.11 with 3Gb ram & not too much host memory use) and I'm
running a Win2003 server R2 VM requesting 1Gb and I have NEVER had
that problem. Not once. Apart from VBox not having features
implemented that it should (shared folders in particular) it has been
as stable as a rock. I occasionally even launch a second Win2000 Pro
VM requesting 512Mb with no problem at the same time. Are you on Tiger
or Leopard? That might be it?...

Regards,

GAM
