I'll retract my initial delight at this.  While the daemon works
as apparently designed, it adjusts the time gradually, perhaps
5 seconds per minute.  So if I put the laptop host to sleep for
a half hour, the daemon will take 6 hours to synchronize the
clock.  Not very satisfactory.

While I recognize the rationale for not making large abrupt
adjustments to the clock, the Rip van Winkle effect is something
systems and applications in the laptop environment must deal
with.

(I still think mouse itegration and display auto-resize are
great.  How do they add entries to the host menu?)
