Hi, I've been using VirtualBox for some time now for running Windows from my Ubuntu desktop. I've recently been testing running guest Ubuntu server machines running on a headless Ubuntu server. I'm using the latest version of VirtualBox from the repository (2.1.4)
My question is around CPU usage. Since my box has a dual core CPU I've been watching the usage when my windows guest is maxing out CPU usage and have noticed that it never uses more than 50% of the total CPU (i.e. 100% of only one CPU) Since my testing on my headless setup (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit host, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 32bit guest) I've seen the same behaviour with the usage of only one of the CPUs to the maximum amount there too. I was originally thinking that if SMP was supported in VB, assigning multiple processors to a guest might allow it to be used by all the host CPUs however I think this may be wrong after a bit of reading. Can anyone point me in the right direction? -- Sincerely, Joel Duckworth http://duckworth.me - [email protected] +61 413 087 191
