Just for the record, I decided to try it anyway.  The wonderful world
of backups etc.
I can report that my Gentoo VM recompiles itself just fine with
"-march=native" and GCC 4.3.2 (Core2 Duo OS X Leopard host), and the
OS has been without glitch for several days now.  Disclaimer: I have
not knowingly used programs yet which might actually try to use SSE3.

Just let me know if I can test anything here, or if you want more info.
