(Unless things have changed since the version associated with the manual I
read) VirtualBox does not support changing the reported manufacturer and model
names of the virtual CD/DVD drive.

That apparently means that I can't use the version of Nero that came bundled
with my DVD drive. That version is licensed only for that DVD drive, and
checks the manufacturer and model name (or maybe the vendor and product IDs)
reported by the drive. When Nero is running in a VM with the virtual DVD
drive mapped to the real drive, since VirtualBox doesn't report the actual
values from the real drive, Nero doesn't see the values it's checking for,
and refuses to recognize the drive for writing.

(Yes, I understand that VirtualBox avoids _changing_ the virtual device's names
_every_ _time_ an ISO CD/DVD image or a real drive is attached to avoid Windows'
reaction to hardware changeds.

Since others might have similar problems with bundled software, I'd like to
request that VirtualBox:
1) allow setting the apparent manufacturer name, model name, vendor ID, and
product ID (or whatever the "right" set of properties is), and
2) be able to report those values for an attached (real) device (so the user
can decide which values to set for part 1).

Thanks,
Daniel
