Hi dear all, thank you for reading. I am using VBox 2.2.4 on a linux-2.6.29 (gentoo), my sound drive is ALSA 1.0.20. My problem is that I am using a M-Audio 2496 sound card (ICE1712). But I guess I do not know how to set up this card correctly so I did not put any personal configuration in .asoundrc. When I was trying to launch guest OS with ALSA audio driver I got no sound. I read the log and found the following error message.
00:00:00.881 Audio: Trying driver 'alsa'. 00:00:00.881 Audio: set_record_source ars=0 als=0 (not implemented) 00:00:00.892 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.906 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.922 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.938 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.953 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.967 ALSA: Failed to apply audio parameters 00:00:00.974 AC97: WARNING: Unable to open PCM IN! 00:00:00.974 AC97: WARNING: Unable to open PCM MC! 00:00:00.974 AC97: WARNING: Unable to open PCM OUT! 00:00:00.974 Audio: Using NULL audio driver 00:00:00.974 Audio: set_record_source ars=0 als=0 (not implemented) 00:00:00.974 VM: Raising runtime error 'HostAudioNotResponding' (fFlags=0x0) 00:00:00.974 Console: VM runtime error: fatal=false, errorID=HostAudioNotResponding message="No audio devices could be opened. Selecting the NULL audio backend with the consequence that no sound is audible" The sound card works well on my linux, though sometimes I do mett problems related with PCM, and among them this virtualbox's one is very typical " unable to open PCM" . Anybody met similar problems? I think even some suggestion about the cause of this problem will be really helpful. Thank you very much.
