I would like to network my Windows XP SP3 host with an Ubuntu 9.04 guest on VirtualBox 2.2.2.

The Win host accesses the Internet via a cable modem gateway and an ISP.

The Win host is assigned a DHCP address by the modem/ISP (?! -- not very network knowledgeable).

What network settings of the Ubuntu virtual machine should I use? The main aim is to give both the Win and Ubuntu access to a USB-connected Epson inkjet that is shared on the Win host, i.e. I do not want to connect as a USB device on Ubuntu because then Win cannot access it. Can this then be accessed via Samba client w. CUPS on Ubuntu?

I would also like Ubuntu to access Win shared folders (other than the one set up in the virtual machine) using Samba client on Ubuntu.

Any ideas of how Win and Ubuntu IP addresses can be found from each side would be most welcome.

Regards,
Hedley
