OK the line your after is the "-/+ buffers/cache" line. Before you had use
509m and had 3205m free. After you had used 1081m and had 2633m free.
Being a usage of around 572m (probably about right).
This line in particular takes into account the cached and buffered memory.
The "used" column on the top line includes the total amount of memory the
kernel has touched since boot. A large amount of this will end up being
cache after a while.
