In open source the phrase to use is "standing on the shoulders of
giants" :) Although... looking at the site's download page it doesn't
appear very open.

VMlite is based on VirtualBox, yes, but it introduces some new
functionality, and it's focus is more towards newbie Windows desktop

In fact, they even commit some fixes back to VirtualBox.
