Make sure you don't have USB active in your VM definition, so VirtualBox can't grab it. I assume the "installer" is a liveCD .iso image. Register it in virtual media manager and assign it to the VM. Then boot the VM from the image by pressing F12 in the VBox VM boot splash and choose cdrom boot. >Please help.
