Execute as root (on a command line)

qmail-popup `hostname -f` /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw \
/bin/sh -c "echo \$HOME/Maildir"

"pretend" you're a user logging in 
(means: type 'user <username><enter>pass <password><enter>)
and watch the output. Should be a directory.

No tell us what

ls -lisad <directory>

states.
