[vchkpw] Newbie - how to backup and restore mailbox

Dear all I am very new with this, I had qmail servers run with vpopmail, how to backup mailboxes? .. I tried to run below commands: cd /home/vpopmail/domains tar cvf mailboxes.tar lippogeneral.com when restoring to another qmail (fresh install) .. : tar xvf mailboxes.tar all restored mailboxes unrecognized .. please help ..
