I hate forums, since I have to chase messages on them, at most they send me an email message when there's a new message, and then I have to go to the forum. OTOH, with a mailing list everything is neatly ordered in my vdr folder (server side filtering takes care of that, but client side filtering can do that too) and readily available, I just have to press "N" or the "Next" button to see unread messages. As per the proper threading, any decent mail client can do it, thunderbird surely does.
