I think $!foo is a special case, and would be quite useful
in things like forms. I certainly wouldn't want a bunch of
perl type things (even though I do love Larry!).

And the feature is very easy to add/remove so if people
do agree that it is an ugliness that should be removed, or
a useful shorthand to have then it will take all of
five minutes to make the necessary changes.
