Resolution: Fixed
The patch looks pretty good to me (though i tweaked it to only check for
session messages if there is a session). So I went ahead and applied it.

It seems to work, and besides, I don't fully understand Chris' concerns (and
suspect that they don't apply here) and he has yet to respond to inquiry about
them. If it turns out to be an incomplete fix, then we'll address that as it
arises. For now, this is certainly better than totally missing the action
messages in the session.
