Rob,

In terms of answering your questions, I would just look at the few
DVSL examples and kick the tires so to speak.  A few years back I
wrote a prototype of the code metrics system that took the XML reports
from findbugs, checkstyle, pmd, and others and transformed that into
HTML.  I was relatively new to both DVSL and XSLT, and DVSL worked
pretty well for my needs while XSLT quickly became very laborious for
complex transformations.
