This is not your standard Java opportunity. In addition to primarily developing on interesting Java web services projects, this person will have the opportunity to learn Gosu (a general-purpose Java virtual machine <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_virtual_machine>-based programming language <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_language> released under the Apache License <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_License> 2.0) – the proprietary development language for Guidewire software, which is utilized widely across the Insurance industry. Not only does this differentiate a Java developer from others out there, but it can also be a lucrative skill set to obtain… Gosu developers are commanding triple digit hourly rates on Guidewire related projects in the market. What is the team/culture/tech environment like?: Team – as mentioned before, this Java team is 4 strong (there’s another large .Net development team in this environment but they work independently on other projects). This group has good comradery, trusting relationships, and is laid back but drives to deliver quality. Culture – Due to the more relaxed nature of this environment, these developers work from home 1 day/week (or possibly more – one developer had their kid’s daycare shut down for a couple of days, so she worked from home three days that week vs. taking PTO). Also, this manager does not care when the team comes in – one comes in at 6:30, one comes in at 10:30. Everybody put in a full 8 hour day, but this offers the flexibility to avoid traffic or drop kids off at school without being rushed by a stringent 8:00-5:00 schedule.
