Dear listers,

Oxaliplatin is a chemotherapy drug that is incompatible with saline. So,
glucose is used as flushing solution.

I administered this to a GI cancer patient today through his freshly placed
Groshong PICC. I finished off with flushing the line with saline, after
flushing it with the glucose.

Was that necessary, or could I just as well have left the PICC with glucose
in it? I am mainly thinking of any difference in infection risk. Maybe
someone else has any other concern about leaving glucose in a PICC.

Thanks
Mats in Stockholm
