Need more information. A-logs will not be deleted by "default" - that
needs to be explicitly defined. So does backing up a-logs. I suppose
that it is possible that your script is asking RMAN to truncate the
logs, but your script doesn't back them up with the backup set. I'm not
sure that truncating logs will work, if you're not backing them up.
Just a thought...... Let's see your script and maybe we can help troubleshoot your problem. Let's also see the exact RMAN/Oracle error strings from your RMAN log. --Steve Dave Brown wrote: I just got off the phone with my NetBackup support. Excuse me for my lack of knowledge here. Not an Oracle/Linux guy at all. That being said, here is scenario of what happened nearest I can tell. Oracle backups have been failing. What ever function tells Oracle that it is ok to clean up transaction logs has not been saying it is ok. Log disk filled up Oracle/dba guy deleted files to make room Job fails with new error stating the log file it is supposed to backup does not exist. My NBSupport says he deleted the logs from the file system and not from Oracle so when agent queries Oracle, it says backup this file but when it goes to do it, file does not exist. Make any sense at all ? The agent simply understands both RMAN and Oracle API and executes a RMAN script. Keep in mind that at times some house cleaning is needed between the RMAN catalogs and the NetBackup catalogs in reference to expired images to RMAN backup id names. Our dba has created RMAN scripts to do hot backups of the databases. I am wondering if the oracle client works like other database clients (exchange, sql) in such that it will clear transaction logs after a good backup.
