Nathan, Are you using RMAN to back up the database. There are many settings available to optimize RMAN-nbu disk to disk backup. Consider using a vault profile or running a script that: -displays all images created on a client in the last n hours. -that list is passed as an argument to bpduplicate and executed. This allows concurrent duplication of the finished on-disk images, while the backup is still running. Run that script at a frequency/duration shorter than the average image duplication time in order to keep the drive busy. Two options for the Monthly copy are a parallel duplication to inline copy or a serial duplication running one after the other. The second copy could use a volume from a different pool. That pool could be ejected from a different vault profile with its own pic list.
