A reply to an old thread, but I've been saving the upgrade ones for a while now. We just tried an upgrade which failed. We rolled back ok (backup copies of a cold /usr/openv) because of time issues, but here's one of the major symptoms we saw: There are 46 media servers (!) outside of the master. It appears that all but one media server that had a REQUIRED_INTERFACE in the bp.conf in UNIX, or the Windows configuration, displayed the issue where the master would call it by its IP address and not it's hostname post-upgrade. The nbemmcmd output and the GUI would show IPs for those media servers. No REQUIRED_INTERFACE in the bp.conf and the hostname remained in that output. None of these have Netbackup clustered, and thus were not removed (as Rusty and the upgrade guide says, remove if in cluster). Has anyone seen a similar issue where a non-clustered media server, with a REQUIRED_INTERFACE = IP in the bp.conf, mutates into it's IP during/after an upgrade from 5.1 to 6.5.1? nbcc output provided no clue that this would happen and at this point I don't know if it is a cause or symptom. I don't know if this contributed to the much larger issue where those systems not upgraded during this initial effort appeared to be non-functioning as NBU media servers (and the nbpushdata -modify_5x_hosts was run last). Some of the nbemmcmd output would say "active for disk jobs" when they only owned tape storage units. Thanks - Greg

Environment 1 X Master - Solaris 8 - standalone 2 X Media - windows 2003 - standalone 2 X Media - windows 2003 - Microsoft clustered. I have checked all vm.conf's across all and made sure there are no REQUIRED_INTERFACE or MM_SERVER_NAME entries of which there are none. Even though two of the media servers are clustered, can I proceed as normal as I am just upgrading the master server.
