One of the things I've seen as a problem that might not be detected by
NBCC is any inconsistencies in the global device database. Take a look
through vmglob -listall to see if all of the entries are valid. I.e. no
tape drives listed for media servers that no longer exist, no media
server entries listed for systems that cannot be
resolved/contacted/etc., entries without serial numbers, etc. This can
cause problems with nbpushdata when the devices are populated into EMM
from globDB. So NBCC may not show any media errors (inconsistencies
between volDB, mediaDB and imageDB), but there could potentially be some
problems in globDB that may cause errors to show up in the nbpushdata,
and subsequently cause problems for nbemm.

Not that this was the problem in Nick's case, but just another
suggestion.

Regards,

Brian

If all else fails? I don't work for Symantec so I have no reason to
"blame the originator" rather than assume it is software.

My observations of others' posts on the list as well as our own
experience going 5.1 to 6.0 suggested that it doesn't find zero errors
on first run or even on second run.

The OP replied off list saying his setup is only 1 master and 7 clients
and I replied to him saying I could see a small installation like that
possibly not having any issues needing to be addressed but even then
wouldn't be so sure.

Are you suggesting that no one on the list makes mistakes so should
never be prompted to investigate the possibility if their experience
with a given tool seems atypical?

If all else fails.... blame the originator Jeff ?

Nick, maybe a call to Symantec Support may assist?

Although you mentioned you have researched on the web, I could bombard
you with links, but that may be hopeless if you have already come across
them.

Just in case...

No errors. That sounds very suspicious to me. It took us multiple
iterations of running the check, doing cleanup and rerunning before we
got to "no errors". I suspect you didn't run something correctly if
you had zero errors out of the gate.

Did you run the consistency checker before upgrading to NBU 6.5?

Good Morning Steve,

After adding the new tape drives did you run the procedure to reinstall
the netbackup sg driver as written up in the
MediaMgr_DeviceConfig_Guide.txt file in the /usr/openv/volmgr directory?

If you following this procedure the devices should show up in the sgscan
output
