No. NetBackup's only dedupe is via PureDisk.

We haven't installed PureDisk on XP, we do have it installed on a bunch of
Windows 2003 servers (I'm not the PD expert in my group - somebody else is
doing most of the PD work). We are not yet using it as NetBackup storage
unit - that can't happen until we install NBU 6.5.2. Today, the data gets
sent to a dedicated PureDisk appliance which is SuSe-based.

Nope - the client sends enough information over to be able to determine
whether or not any data needs to be sent.

Nope. In fact, we've "seeded" our PureDisk server with copies of the data
to speed up the initial backup of the remote sites - this is especially
useful if the remote site has a slow network link. Dump the data to a USB
drive at the remote site, ship it to where the PureDisk server is, and back
it up first.

You don't actually have to install the NetBackup client at all. The
PureDisk interface to restore files is actually pretty good.
