Even if this worked, I wouldn't trust it on something as serious as a database. What happens when it doesn't work and you can't get support from anyone? Until you can upgrade, would you be able to dump the database to a flat file on disk with a Maintenance Job or some third party SQL backup app (Litespeed, etc.) and then have NBU pick up the dump as a normal file?
