We had very slow performance months ago, traced to an mpt driver bug which was fixed in a patch. Things would go really fast for awhile, then slow to a trickle, with a CPU spending 100% of its time in the mpt driver handling interrupts. Reboot fixed it temporarily. This was bug #6862488; Just make sure you've got the latest patchlevel for the HBA drivers, latest HBA firmware, and latest JBOD and disk firmware all in place. Then it should fly.
