Hello, This is really nasty, but a nice find-- apparently the same problem occurs in 7.5.0.1 as well, thank you for posting!

I've noticed this in the 7.5 operational notes: If you attempt to restore a large number of files such as 2,000,000, the restore job may remain in the queue state in the NetBackup Administration Console. If that happens, you cannot restore those files. This issue is the result of the bprd process, which uses almost 100% of the CPUutilization and a significant amount of memory. These two things together, causes the restore job to remain in the queued state We're debating on whether to go to 7.5.0.1 or 7.1.0.4. Sounds like this issue would be cause us problems in our DR tests... I was leaning toward 7.5.x, but now may tilt toward 7.1.0.4... -----Original Message----- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Justin Piszcz Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2012 5:26 AM To: 'Bluejay Adametz'; veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] NetBackup 7.5.0.1 restores fail when restoring large numbers of files? Hi, We've done a number of restores of 10-50M+ files, this last test was only around 1-1.2 million files, went back to 7.1 in the meantime. I have the images that caused the issue so I'm duping that from tape to disk and then will re-import to the test-environment and dup back to tape if necessary and try to reproduce in the test environment. How much data? How many files? I'm testing 7.5.0.1 in my test lab right now. So far I haven't seen any issues for my environment, but I haven't tried any "large" (more than a few dozen files) restores yet. - Bluejay Adametz Don't ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up. - G.
