Right - "According to the documentation" My question was about why it is NOT working according to the documentation.
We don't want "-w 0" as we do want it to actually fail eventually so that it doesn't leave our DB in hot backup mode for say an entire weekend as it might take it a while to commit changes (assuming the archive logs filesystem didn't fill first due to all the held commits from hot backup mode).
