All I finally found a resolution to the problem. There is a hidden feature within an area called partitioning where you can define the prefix, suffix or disabled section of the barcode!!
Sure enough by setting it to the last set of characters I now have an infantry without any generation rules created and I'm seeing the last six digits!!!!! I bloody knew it was the robot! What annoyed me was the fact PHP was blaming me and the backup software. To clarify that everyone net backup my design is meant to use the last six digits and in my opinion this is the preferred method. I appreciate the responses especially thanks to Roland! I never did find this documented in their manual!!!! Like I said I'm more shocked that H P couldn't even do this! To set the barcode length, use the Up and Down buttons to select Barcode Length and press Select. Next, use the Up and Down buttons to display the appropriate number (from 1 to 9, or back to 0), then press Select. Default barcode length is 0, which means that a barcode of any length will be accepted. If I create a Media ID Generation Rule, then this means I am trying to move away from the default behaviour of NetBackup? I want to read W995L5 - But I am SSW995 in the Media ID and Barcode Colums under Media and Device Management, then under Robots and under Robot TLD(1) Simon ________________________________ From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>] on behalf of Stier, Matthew [[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>] Sent: 05 November 2013 15:11 To: Simon Weaver Cc: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] HP ESL G3 Tape Library Barcode Issues Documented here: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH10824 From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Simon Weaver Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2013 10:01 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: [Veritas-bu] HP ESL G3 Tape Library Barcode Issues Hi All Hope everyone is well. Can someone advise on this? I have implemented an HP G3 ESL Library under NBU 7.5 - However, I have a problem. When doing the Inventory, it is showing the Media ID as the first 6 characters of the Barcode, rather than the last 6 characters of the Barcode. For example, what I expect to see is W955L5, but what I am seeing is SSW995 being imported! Any ideas as HP is telling me it is a NBU issue, but I was under the impression that by design, NetBackup imports the last 6 characters of the barcode. Thanks, Simon
