Hi,

Not long ago, we bought a product that uses Sybase IQ as it's backend
database.

The company from which we bought it claims it cannot put it's raw devices
under Veritas control (/dev/vx/rdsk/dg/vol), because it is not supported.

As a reference, they sent a 5 years old document, titled "SYBASE IQ USING EMC
CLARiiON STORAGE". In this document, there one paragraph that says:

5. Create one single LUN on each RAID group, as close to 2TB as possible
and present it to host(s) . Use of Volume Manager is not recommended with
Sybase IQ as it complicates the environment, consumes CPU resources on
host(s), introduces product dependencies and lowers the performance.

This sounds very general to me, and without any specific technical reason.

Can anyone on this list shed some light on this issue (best practices, own
experience, official documents etc.) regarding this issue?
