I got this error when I was trying to use different versions of SVN simultaneously.
I fixed it by making sure I was always using the same SVN version. I set Versions to use the SVN 1.5.x client I also had a 1.4.x client at /usr/bin/svn Plus a 1.5.x client at /opt/bin/svn To switch Versions: goto Preferences, Subversion Library: and choose it.. To switch Coda: goto Preferences, Files, Subversion Tool Path: /usr/ bin/svn To switch your shell's perferred SVN, add the directory with SVN to the beginning of your $PATH.
