Hi - I'm a bit confused about how this works? Would it be possible to 
explain how this works in practice?

You can scale data on an axis currently in Veusz by changing the scaling 
property of the axis, or you can scale the plotted tick values under the 
tick number formatting options, but this may not be as general as you like. 
You can also scale the x value dataset using the "Data->Operations->Compute-
>Multiply by constant" and use that for plotting. You can change the scale 
value later by right clicking on the dataset in the dataset browser and 
choosing edit.
