Wes, The purpose of the co-op swap as to share hackles from different saddles, since one saddle will tie 10 lifetimes of flies for a non-commercial tier.
Don't spend $100+ for a saddle if you are not a pro-tier. Just get a 10 pak, which is good for many years of tying personal use flies. Plus you can get many colors and sizes and have some variety for the same price- again, the reason for the co-op swap. The co-op swap was a good idea, if I do say so myself. We'll have to re-vive it some day, if Byard no longer has it on his site. We can still buy the saddles from him and get 'pluckers' from the list. Remember that? That feature is currently off the site (was nice while it lasted!) Then, I noticed that Whiting midge saddles are now at $116.00 ! So, a question for our rooster experts...What is the difficulty in breeding or getting a good quality midge saddle? Is the bird part of a specific breeding line meant to grow a small rooster, or something? (The mind boggles.)
