Mine was a "Mudler Minnow", with a west Texas twist, from the pattern in "McClain's Standard Fishing Encyclopedia". It caught my very first trout, a Brown, on the north fork of the south Platt river in Colorado about 1968.
Have several of the decimated kin in my very first fly box, but the first was lost to a rock fish along that same river a few days later. Very fond memories. Thanks for helping me remember. Jimi USCG ITWPATWT 100% Vet Here is an interesting question. What was your first fly that you tied? Do you still have it? Do you still tie that same pattern and use it for fishing. My first fly (I'll have to post a picture of it) was a Mickey Finn Streamer w/ Peacock tied over the top. I still have it displayed in a case in our front room. People once and awhile will ask about it. It was the first fly that a beginner fly tying kit instructed me to tie.
