Subject: [VFB] Nice Easter weekend in Sweden...
Date: Tue, 14 Apr 2009 16:26:49 +0200
8:15 a.m, day before yesterday:
Was ordered to open my eyes and the first thing I saw was a blazing sun through
the window. "Perfect day for going out with the small ones." A few seconds
later I realized that this wasn't going to happen. I heard a dog breathing
somewhere in the room... and it turned out to be Emelie in front of the TV.
Short quick hissing breaths. The only walk outside for any of us was going to
be from the door to the ambulance.
After a few minutes fighting on the phone with a nurse who just couldn't
believe that she felt so sick because she "was able to cry like that" the
ambulance was finally on its way. Teresa followed in the ambulance while I
stayed at home with Klara. Blue lights and sirens... and half way to the
emergency hospital (which is in the next town) they had to stop to pick up an
anestethic nurse... "just in case". Teresa has been a nurse herself and knows
what that "just in case" means, so she was NOT comfortable sitting in the front
with the driver, not being able to see anything anymore.
A couple of hours later she called and knew nothing... and then she called
again and knew nothing... and then she called again and knew that they would
not come home the same day. So mom had to drive me and Klara up to the hospital
with stuff for them. I was a little bit worried how that would work out. I know
the reaction when "granny" walks in here... toys flying, everything flying,
Emelie jumping and running. How would that work if she had monitors and stuff
connected? But that didn't happen. We walked in and there she was lying with
cables and tubes. But it wasn't the same untamed wildcat that I knew. This one
barely lifted her eyes when we walked in. It was a sad sight. Noone wants to
see their little baby like that. So that night I had to be single father.
They still don't know what it was, but she responded to Asthma medications so
last night we could finally get them back home. If it actually IS Asthma is yet
to be seen... but now she's considered asthmatic until it can be ruled out.
Paramedics and sirens... not what any of us had expected to find in the Easter
Bunny egg.
/Nick
