If you use Boar's bristle paint brushes as the fibets, you will find that they contain a natural taper and work wonderfully. They are also much cheaper. There are also some nylon paint brushes with tapering ends, but they are very expensive. They have rather a white end to the fiber so you must cut that off, but there is still enough taper to work.
