yes, 2 reasons

1. nearly 40 years ago I was told always wax silk thread with Veniards wax, to 
protect the silk and improve the durability of the flies, always have always 
will..

2. The furled silk is stiffer and holds the open shape of the eye.

I furled the waxed silk thread to make the eye.

I normally use cream silk but here using red & white thread to show the 
construction

The all cream eyes look fine to frame but I wouldn't fish them
