I have been fly fishing and fly tying since 1978, so the list is
naturally extensive. We are mainly stillwater specialists, so a lot
of the rivers were fished enroute to stillwater destinations. If I
were to pick a favorite area, not necessarily just for the fishing, it
would be the North Umpqua River in Oregon, along Steamboat Creek.
Absolutely gorgeous river and scenery, though camping is a lot more
restricted then it was in our traveling days.

Although we have always been a low-budget fishing family (i.e. no big
trips to the Bahamas or Alaska), we had the opportunity due to my
being a college faculty member, to travel in a camper van for 2-1/2
months in the summer for over 13 summers. My spouse Linda and I
consider this period a huge highlight of our lives. We couldn't do
the same thing now, as it would be prohibitively expensive. I can
remember gas at $1.23/gal. and campgrounds at $3 per night. Days long
gone.
