Tying in the mid point and folding back is how Dave Skok's Mushmouth is tied as well.

I tried the hot water yesterday on some already tied bait fish and it does help shape the fibers, I know by experience you can't micro wave synthetics, they become rather solid.

        Finally run fly under hot water to set the fibers. This seems to
        bind the fibers together and makes the fly last longer.
