Hi Mike,

I'd certainly be interested.

I still have several boxes of gudebrod thread.  When I get a moment I will dig them out and post what I have and sell it to you if anyone is interested.  I bought a bunch several years ago on ebay.  I like it and always transfer the thread from the long skinny spools onto the nor-vise spools.  Let me know if there is interest.

Gudebrod was polyester, which is why they were drastically different than Uni and Danville, which are nylon. The stuff my wife has in her embroidery basket is all cotton. Maybe that is just what she prefers. I know that is just anecdotal, but it is worth reading the labels before you buy just to be sure.

The reason why I liked Gudebrod so much is that it was very thin and very strong, it was able to untwist and lay down flat without fraying and I was able to get thinner build up on the head of a fly.

Gudebrod was all silk, wasn't it?  Might there be an advantage to using Pearsall's?

Embroidery thread is generally polyester - I think.  Maybe better for a dry fly?

Embroidery thread, mamy use it for woven bodies. It's typically six strand, use as many strands as you need to obtain thickness desired. I imagine a single strand would be pretty close in thickness to Gudebrod G thread.

Subject: [VFB] Substitute for Gudebrod "G" Thread?
Sent: Wed, Apr 10, 2013 3:48:17 PM

Hi Tony,

I'd like to try to learn to weave a Mayfly body (extended)  Your CD is great for this, but I can't find the Gudebrod thread that yoou use.  Are you (or anyone else) aware of a suitable substitued?  Colors?

I watched several YouTube videos that used everything from antron yarn to embrodery thread.  My goal is to mimic the tight, small body you made; I'm afraid that antron might be too heavy?  Thoughts?

Thanks!
